My cpu died, then my 6800gt died, so with great fear I looked up some items on Newegg...for around 200 bucks I replaced my cpu, mobo, ram, and video card, and
my system is screaming.
athlon am2 4200 brisbane cpu 2.8 ghz 50 bucks
nvidia biostar 8500gt 50 bucks
biostar motherboard - 50 bucks
2 gigs of pc800 ram , 20 bucks a stick
the weak spot is the vid card...it is more geared toward high def movies than gaming, which is good because i use an xbox 360 hd-dvd drive. I may upgrade to an 8800 if I start playing a game that needs more horsepower, as well as to a faster cpu. Lots of choices for the Am2 socket. .
Bottom line is I can play wow at 1300 x 768 with all the graphics maxed and still get an average of 40-60 fps.
Bottom line is this is the single cheapest upgrade i have ever done that got me such a huge improvement overall.
Very cool.
